"Multi-layer adhesive tape to compress and contract a scar"
The present invention relates to a multi-layer adhesive tape for compressing and contracting a scar.
The multi-layer web comprises: - a flexible top layer; - a binder layer; - a flexible bottom layer which comprises an adhesive layer which is arranged to cover the scar, said bottom layer and said top layer being mutually connected by the intermediate of said tie layer, - said upper layer having a width greater than that of the lower layer so as to cover the latter over its entire width.
US 5,780,048 discloses a multilayer tape that provides an airtight and watertight barrier so as to promote the healing process of an open wound and to prevent possible contamination of the wound by the surrounding medium. The strip comprises 4 layers arranged successively in the following manner: the first layer is arranged to be placed on an open wound and is based on cyanoacrylate, the second layer is made of flexible material, the third layer is an adhesive layer; and the fourth layer is a bandage based on a mixture of ethylene polymer.
The first and second layers have substantially the same width, which is smaller than that of the third and fourth layers. The third and fourth layers thus cover said first and second layers over their entire width.
A peelable coating may advantageously be disposed on the first layer of the strip. The bandage is maintained in a vacuum or airtight system so as to avoid premature reaction between the components forming the band.
In use, the bandage is removed from its system and the peelable coating may be removed for application to a wound.
When the wound is closed, it is known that it can create a scar whose shape can change over time, which is restrictive for the user from an aesthetic point of view.
The multi-layer tape of the state of the art is thus limited to treating open wounds and to isolate them from their surrounding environment to reduce the risk of contamination. However, once the wound is closed, a scar remains visible to the naked eye and can not be attenuated by the bandage disclosed. Therefore, once the wound is closed, this type of band is no longer sufficient to reduce the visibility of the scar. The invention aims to overcome the drawbacks of the state of the art by providing a multi-layer adhesive tape capable of reducing the visibility of a scar.
To solve this problem, it is provided according to the invention a multi-layer adhesive tape for compressing and contracting a scar as indicated at the beginning, characterized in that said upper layer has a thickness h of between 20 and 1100 μm, preferably between 20 and 900 μm, more preferably between 20 and 800 μm, advantageously between 20 and 200 μm, even more advantageously between 50 and 100 μm, so as to obtain, in the position of application of the adhesive strip on said scar, a pressure P positive which is defined by the force applied by the upper layer on the surface of the scar, according to the following pressure equation: where,
P corresponds to the pressure applied by the band on the scar, ε corresponds to the relative deformation of the upper layer and, E represents the Young's modulus of the upper layer, h represents the thickness of the upper layer, L represents the width of the lower layer, and the angle a is defined between one of the ends of the upper layer and the surface of the scar.
Thus, it has surprisingly been found that the selection of a thickness of between 20 and 1100 μm, preferably between 20 and 900 μm, more preferably between 20 and 800 μm, advantageously between 20 and 200 μm, even more advantageously between 50 and 100 μm of the upper layer provides a so-called positive pressure directly on the scar and around it. This has the effect of compressing and mechanically contract the scar which helps to reduce the visibility of the scar unexpectedly.
Thanks to the band according to the invention, the user simply applies it to the scar for a predetermined time to reduce the visibility thereof.
Advantageously, the value of said pressure P is between 666 and 6665 Pa.
According to a preferred embodiment of the band according to the invention, the upper layer (4) has a value ε of between 1 and 3%.
Preferably, the Young's modulus of the upper layer is between 7.106 and 7.107 Pa.
More preferably still, the width of the lower layer (2) is at least 1 cm.
In addition, in an advantageous embodiment of the present invention, the sinus a is between 0 and 1, preferably between 0.87 and 1.
Advantageously, the lower layer has a thickness of between 20 and 1000 μm.
In a particular embodiment, the adhesive layer has a thickness of between 10 and 500 μm.
Preferably, the tie layer has a thickness of between 5 and 300 μm.
Advantageously, the upper layer and the lower layer each comprise a polymer, such as polyurethane (PU), polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or a polyolefin, preferably polyethylene, polyester or polypropylene.
In a particularly advantageous embodiment of the device according to the invention, the lower layer comprises a UV absorber.
In addition, in a particular embodiment the bonding layer arranged to mutually connect the upper layer and the lower layer comprises a pressure sensitive polymer for maintaining the film on the skin and the so-called positive pressure for the duration of the application to said skin. In addition, said pressure-sensitive polymer is also preferentially adapted to the contact with the skin as well as to the cytotoxicity criterion.
Preferably, the adhesive layer arranged to cover the scar comprises a pressure-sensitive polymer for smoothing the scar. Preferably, said pressure-sensitive polymer having a smoothing function may be a thermoplastic polymer, preferably Nolax M11.228®. In addition, said pressure-sensitive polymer having a smoothing function is also preferentially adapted to the contact with the skin as well as to the cytotoxicity criterion. Other embodiments of the strip according to the invention are indicated in the appended claims. Other features, details and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the description given below, without limitation and with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 illustrates the structure of the multi-layer strip according to the invention.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the multilayer strip according to the invention.
In the figures, identical or similar elements bear the same references.
Figure 1 illustrates the structure of the multi-layer strip according to the invention. As illustrated, the multilayer strip advantageously comprises 4 layers: an upper layer 4, a tie layer 3, a lower layer 2 and an adhesive layer 1.
The strip according to the present invention may advantageously comprise a peelable coating (not shown) for covering the strip before use.
Thus, the user can remove the peelable coating and apply the band on the closed scar by positioning the adhesive layer 1 on the scar. In this way, the mechanical compression and contraction mentioned above can take place so that a so-called positive pressure will be created directly on the scar. Thus, it has been found that the positive pressure is preferably between 666 and 6665 Pa.
The pressure was measured by applying the following measurement method: - putting under catheter a catheter filled with physiological saline solution, - purging the catheter and connecting it to a purged tube connected to a pressure sensor (Edwards lifesciences ") And a Drâger Infinity C500 brand monitoring, - setting the tap on the skin and reading the recorded pressure.
FIG. 2 represents a variant of the band according to the invention. As illustrated, the strip comprises the four layers mentioned in FIG. 1. FIG. 2 further represents the skin of a user and a scar 6 on which the band according to the invention is applied. The following pressure equation is used to characterize the upper layer 4:
where, when the band is applied to the scar, P has a value between 666 and 6665 Pa corresponding to the force applied by the upper layer 4 on the scar 6, ε corresponds to the relative deformation of the upper layer 4 and has advantageously a value between 1 and 3%, E represents the Young's modulus of the upper layer which is preferably between 7.106 and 7.107 Pa, h represents the thickness of the upper layer, L represents the width of the lower layer which is preferably at least 1 cm, and the angle a is defined between the upper layer 4 and the surface of the skin 5. Preferably, the sinus a is between 0 and 1, preferably between 0.87 and 1.
The Young's modulus was determined by first measuring the tensile strength of the top layer 4 according to ASTM D 882 and using the following equation:
Where F is a force (N), E is the Young's modulus to be determined (Pa), S = the area of the specimen (m2), and D = deformation (preferably equal to 10%).
It is understood that the present invention is in no way limited to the embodiments described above and that many modifications can be made without departing from the scope of the appended claims.
